Diabetic Kidney Disease

Diabetes is the most common cause of chronic kidney disease and about 33% of patients with diabetes have diabetic kidney disease. Diabetes can damage the filtration portions of the kidney causing protein to spill into the urine. Diabetic Kidney Disease can often be without symptoms so unless urine and blood tests are specifically checked it can often go undetected. In addition to controlling diabetes, there are many medications that are available to reduce protein in the urine and treat Diabetic Kidney Disease.
